A Conversation with Kathryn Harlan
Thursday, December 8 | 6:30-8pm CT on Zoom
Book Coven — our celebration of witchy books and writers — welcomes Kathryn Harlan, author of the short story collection, Fruiting Bodies (2022, W.W. Norton).
Named one of Vulture’s best books of the year, this genre-bending debut collection constructs eight eerie worlds filled with desire, wisdom, and magic blooming amidst decay. Ranging from fantastical to gothic to uncanny, Fruiting Bodies follows characters — mostly queer and mostly women — on the precipice of change. Echoes of timeless myth and folklore reverberate through these narratives of discovery, appetite, and coming-of-age in the time of climate crisis.
Join us for a magical conversation with the Creatrix of this collection, Kathryn Harlan. We’ll explore her writing process and path to publication, as well as themes and questions echoing throughout her debut work. We’ll also discuss how writing is magic, and how magic can inform a writer’s journey. We’ll also pull Tarot cards as we go, and welcome audience questions.
Book Coven is open to all witches everywhere at no cost. Register below to receive the Zoom link the morning of the event.
