Tarot is an archive of human experience! It’s a technology that’s interested in human psychology and the universal dynamics and patterns that run through our lives, regardless of where we’re from or what we’ve been through.

In Tarot for Creative Spirits, each card acts as a portal of discovery, inviting you to investigate your relationship to all kinds of things — community, creativity, abundance and scarcity, truth-telling, conflict, nature, the moon, and so much more.

When working with this book, the alchemy happens in multiple directions. First, we anchor our understanding of Tarot with personal points of reference, creating embodied knowledge of the Tarot. We also see ourselves through 78 different mirrors that show us what it means to be human.

A book of mystery and exploration, this huge workbook takes readers through all 78 archetypes to help you channel creativity and allow your soul to speak through the pen. * Chef’s kiss! *
— Maria Minnis

When I first started learning Tarot, I took the “good student” approach. I bought a new notebook, labeled each page with a different card, and started taking copious notes from books I read and podcasts I listened to, then used this notebook like an encyclopedia to help me memorize the traditional meanings.

But my Tarot education REALLY took off when I started pulling cards for myself, reading them from an intuitive perspective, and watching to see how my own experience day-to-day echoed what the cards “foretold.”

Many of us — especially us magical, highly sensitive, intuitive folks — learn best through experience and personal identification. This isn’t selfish, it’s just that we spend ALL OUR TIME in our own bodies, perceiving the world through our personal filter.

Tarot for Creative Spirits is the way I wish I’d learned Tarot — by connecting the cards with what I know about life. This book is the product of seven years studying, teaching, and reading Tarot for hundreds of people, and it’s your gentle friend and ally in connecting with an ancient technology that can bring big magic into your world!

The magic is multi-faceted!

working with tarot…

…will help you build, deepen, and repair your relationship with your intuition, the powerful navigation system that will guide you toward incredible experiences, spaces of refuge and safety, and the work you came here to do. Our dominant social order is designed to sever our connection to intuitive knowing — on purpose! — because this keeps us compliant, fearful, and willing to do the system’s bidding. When we strengthen our intuitive knowing, we can discern the difference between internalized beliefs that don’t serve us and true, authentic wisdom that moves us toward creativity, liberation, and transformation. Tarot for Creative Spirits is the slow, steady, rich way to begin or deepen your Tarot practice, giving you a tool you can use FOR LIFE to connect with Spirit and yourself.

😍😍😍

“When I pull a card, the prompt is always related to what I was thinking about. This book gives you somewhere to go with that.”

SELF-REFLECTION and SELF-DISCOVERY are two beautiful roads to empowerment, growth, and magic. We definitely can’t control everything going on in the world around us. But we can control how we guide, support, and resource ourselves so we can face the unpredictable world in a way that feels relatively peaceful, self-assured, and meaningful. This doesn’t happen automatically, and we certainly weren’t educated or nurtured to develop the skills of self-trust and self-leadership. To cultivate these qualities, we have to go within. Change starts at home, friends — inside our own bodies, minds, and spirits. The questions you’ll encounter in Tarot for Creative Spirits will guide you in gentle but deep self-reflection that will help you identify your strengths, wisdom, visions, and goals, and how you can move toward them in a way that’s sustainable and exciting for you!

😍😍😍

“It always helps me get a better perspective on what I’m dealing with without having to go full-on Tarot-card-reading mode.”

Journaling…

…is a simple practice with HUGE benefits. Hundreds of studies have shown the mental and psychological benefits of journaling, especially during times of distress. People who journal regularly experience reductions in depression, anxiety, and hostility. This is true for people who previously didn’t have a journaling practice, and even for people who don’t initially feel comfortable journaling. The prompts in Tarot for Creative Spirits are designed to take your mind and heart to new places and help you look at your life with more attention and care. Many people who use the book say they feel more resourced as a result. They discover new aspects of Self that want to find expression, and they begin to release thoughts and beliefs that are holding them back from going after the things they want in life.

😍😍😍

“Sometimes I may not directly address the prompt, but I go to the heart of what I need as I’m writing. I pinpoint where the pain is and get some release.”

CREATIVITY, like journaling, is a healing modality. Creativity is how we express our strange, wild, beautiful experience of being human. When we stop expressing ourselves creatively, we choke off something powerful inside of us. But when we explore, express, and play creatively, we open up channels for vibrant, life-giving energy to flow through us. Those same dominant systems I keep referring to teach us that creativity is worthwhile only when it makes it money or yields success. NOT SO! Creativity is its own inherently valuable practice, regardless of what we create or “how well” we create it. In Tarot for Creative Spirits, you’ll be invited to draw, color, and collage as part of the process. Folks who work with these prompts, even if they think they’re “bad at art,” start releasing perfectionism, reconnecting with creative modalities they abandoned long ago, and HAVING FUN expressing themselves visually, not just in words!

😍😍😍

“This book is helping me ease into the artsy and creative things that I quit doing because of messages like: Why are you doing that, that’s not productive?”

I’ve always been someone who journals, but it used to feel like a brain dump for me. Now, whether I’m journaling with the book or journaling in my journal with a spread, it’s a different flavor. I’m responding to something as opposed to blurting things out. It’s become a ritual — Sunday alone time, me and the cards, the book, and my journal. It gives me structure, and I needed that.

How to Use Tarot for Creative Spirits

The easy answer is HOWEVER YOU WANT! But I recommend folks start with the opening Tarot spread, then go to The Fool prompt — it’s crafted as a starting point. From there, it’s choose-your-own adventure!

Some people who use the book like to pull a card randomly to take them to the next prompt. Some folks work through one entire suit at a time, going in order. Others use the prompts to help them explore cards that show up in their monthly or regular Tarot spreads. There are probably a ton of other ways to move through the book that I haven’t even thought of! And the extra good news is that you can use one method for a while, then change it up later JUST BECAUSE YOU FEEL LIKE IT! That’s what I do!

I made the book this way so you can feel into your own relationship with the cards, staying curious and excited about where they’ll take you next, and noticing how certain cards surface when you’re going through a particular kind of struggle, pattern, or dynamic.

The way you move through this book is a process of cultivating self-trust — because you’re allowing yourself find your own way, follow your feeling and intuition, and listen to the cards (and your SELF!).

What fans have to say…

😍 Since working with Tarot for Creative Spirits, I've started on personal projects I was finding one reason or another to postpone. I feel braver. I crave spending time with the book every day even if it's only to answer one question. At first, I was going through the prompts in order, then I decided to flip around. I always land on the card I need for the day. It does seem like a magical book, there is something special about it.

😍 I get a little teary with each journaling prompt, but in the best way.

😍 The prompts in this journal have challenged me to look at each card in the Tarot deck in a completely different way. I love how Tarot for Creative Spirits creates a space to think outside the box. For some prompts, I’m inspired creatively to complete them immediately, and with others, I'm invited to really sit with the card and observe how it fits into my everyday life. I love the duality within this journal and how there's space for different forms of thought and creativity and not a one-size-fits-all mentality.

😍 It’s interesting going back and looking at where I was when I started out and the evolution of things. In the beginning, I was reluctant with some of the drawing prompts, but then I see myself being more open to doing it. It’s cool to see that trajectory.

😍 This was the first time I’ve written down that I trust myself.

😍 I started writing poetry! It’s opening up stuff for me that I’m like, What?! I’m kinda addicted to it.

😍 This is experiential. It offers multiple ways of looking at a card and working with the card instead of saying: this card says I should be doing this. It’s in rather than out. It’s grounded and earthy, not a put-your-head-in-the-clouds kinda thing.

😍 I’m starting to appreciate and enjoy this form of journaling, this kind of writing where it’s pointed. I’m recognizing what a bridge it could be. I haven’t done that kind of clarification for myself, and now there’s this voice that is strong, hopeful, confident, and true. This process is allowing the voice of longing and desire to speak, a voice I trust and love, a voice I haven’t had as much that’s now emerging for me.

😍 It's not hard to put time aside for it, because it is the most nourishing part of my day and has made a big shift in my business positioning, too. I feel accomplished when I fill the page.

😍 What a great, great tool! It’s something that’s achievable for everybody with an open mind to it. I get up from my desk just feeling this lightness, which is what keeps me coming back. I don’t think I’ve ever been this active in any of my journals.

😍 I love how this book is steeped in parts work and polyvagal theory (without explicitly speaking in those terms).
