In this workshop, we’ll explore the cards of the Tarot that feature birds and flying creatures in the Smith-Rider-Waite deck.

Even seasoned Tarot practitioners can become overly focused on the human figures and stories within the cards, overlooking and forgetting the nonhuman beings that also populate the Tarot.

But our animal friends bring deep wisdom and symbolism to the cards, so we’ll be turning our attention toward their energy, and how their presence enhances and deepens the meaning of particular archetypes — through both presence and absence, proliferation and extinction.

This workshop is intentionally held in the midst of spring migration here in North America, when millions of birds (and monarch butterflies) make the long trekfrom the south to nest and enjoy the warmer months at higher latitudes. We’ll talk a bit about birds and migration in general, and the real-world challenges that birds and pollinators face today.

THIS WORKSHOP IS INTENDED FOR:

• Folks who are new or more experienced in their Tarot practice. If you’re more of a beginner, this workshop will touch about broader meanings of each card we discuss, and you’ll get a slower, more zoomed-in study of the card. If you’ve been working with the cards for awhile, this workshop will help you see some of the cards in a new light, infusing your readings with context and possibility.

• Mystics who also love nature and want to feel more connected to the nonhuman world, particularly in a time of environmental destruction and climate change. This workshop will bring you into deeper connection with the birds and butterflies around you, and possibly spark new actions to support populations in your region.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

• I’ll share the Zoom link for this workshop via two reminders leading up to the class, but please add this date to your calendar.

• A recording of the workshop will be shared after our session.

• Bring your Tarot deck, journal, and something to write with. Maybe cozy up with your animal companion too!

• This workshop will blend lecture and teaching with group conversation and exploration. We notice and reflect together to tap into the collective wisdom of the group, but no one is obligated to share, speak, or be on camera.

• We’ll also pull cards and divine messages from the birds and flying creatures of the Tarot to personalize our explorations.

• There will be time at the end to share what came up, ask questions, and compare experiences and insights.
